Installation from RPMs

Two SCIRun Problem Solving Environments (PSE), BioPSE and Fusion, are available via RPMs. RPMs are available for each supported Linux distribution. Customized SCIRun PSEs can be built from source code, see “Installation from Source Code”

The BioPSE RPM includes SCIRun packages BioPSE, MatlabInterface, Teem, and Insight. The BioPSE RPM includes ITK libraries required by the Insight package. Matlab software must be present to use modules of the MatlabInterface package.

The Fusion RPM includes SCIRun packages Fusion, DataIO, and Teem. The Fusion RPM includes the HDF5 libraries. The SCIRun/Fusion RPM has been built to use MDSplus software but MDSplus software must be installed separately. See “MDSplus Installation” for MDSplus software installation instructions.

The version of SCIRun included in all RPMs has been configured to support BLAS but BLAS libraries must be installed separately. See BLAS (or ATLAS), and LAPACK Installation ” for BLAS installation instructions (BLAS/ATLAS and LAPACK are often pre-installed in Linux distributions).

Root privileges are required to install the SCIRun RPMs. SCIRun is installed in /usr/local/SCIRun/bin.

Follow these steps to install SCIRun:

  1. Download a SCIRun RPM distribution, documentation, and sample data sets.

  2. Install SCIRun using the rpm command.

  3. Install SCIRun's sample data sets.

  4. Install SCIRun's documentation.

Be sure to read “Before Starting SCIRun” after installing, but before starting, SCIRun.
